NES Launches Rector Search Committee

The New Economic School is starting the search for a new rector after Ruben Enikolopov, NES Rector since 2018, has announced his plans to return to academic work from September 2022.

The NES community expresses its gratitude to Ruben for his leadership. New Economic School is a unique higher educational institution. The NES diploma is highly valued in Russia and abroad. According to the Tilburg University and QS ratings for 2020, NES is the best Russian economic university in terms of research quality. In 2021, for the fourth year in a row, the School retained the second place among Russian universities represented in the "group of 301-400" world universities in the Shanghai ARWU ranking in the subject "Economics." NES ranked 18th in the world ranking of universities whose graduates enter the PhD programs in economics in the top-20 universities in the US.

"Largely thanks to Ruben Enikolopov, NES continues to be the leader in the economic education and research in Russia," Alexei Kudrin, Chairman of the NES Board of Directors, said. This year, more than 500 students are studying at NES in 5 degree programs. The School brings together more than 60 professors and researchers.

Following the best global practices and established search processes for leaders in the world's leading universities, NES Rector Search Committee was established. Its members were approved by the NES Board of Directors after consultations with many stakeholders. The task of the Committee is to conduct a comprehensive and global search for a new rector. Candidates must have high academic reputation, strong managerial and leadership qualities, understand and share the values of the New Economic School.

Ksenia Yudaeva (MAE’1994) was appointed the Committee Chair. The Committee includes members of the NES community: members of the Board of Directors, alumni and faculty. All Committee members in recent years have actively interacted with the School, have a clear idea of its development strategy, its values and traditions. The Committee will begin its work by organizing discussions with the School's stakeholders and identifying a list of potential candidates.

"The search for a new rector is the search for a leader who not only determines the development vector of the School, but also has an impact on the development and popularization of economic science in Russia as a whole, while preserving the values of NES," Ksenia Yudaeva said.

All the relevant information about the search process will be available on www.nes.ru/rectorsearch. All members of the NES community can share their suggestions by sending an email to the Search Committee to [email protected].

Stakeholders will also be invited to meetings with committee members to share their ideas on the NES development in the next 5-10 years. The Committee will begin its work shortly. The search process is expected to conclude by June 2022.
