NES took part in ASSA 2020 Annual Meeting

This year, the Annual Meeting of the American Economic Association (AEA) took place in San Diego (California) on January 3-5 2020. NES professors Douglas Campbell, Mikhail Drugov, Sergey Kovbasyuk, Marta Troya Martinez, Shlomo Weber, and Hosny Zoabi took part in the event.

Moreover, NES professor Olga Kuzmina hosted a session on gender studies Leader Ladies. She presented a paper on the topic of "Gender diversity in corporate boards: Evidence from quota-implied discontinuities" which she wrote jointly with her coauthor and NES alumnus Valentina Melentyeva (BAE'2018).

"We use data across European corporate boards to investigate the effects of quota-induced female representation, under minimal possible identification assumptions. We find that having more women in board causally increases Tobin's Q, despite some negative effects on operating performance and more likely employment downsizings. We interpret this evidence as firms scaling down inefficient operations. Our results highlight that gender quotas are not necessarily a costly way of promoting equality", – Olga Kuzmina said.

As part of the AEA Conference, on January 4, a traditional NES Alumni & Friends Reception took place. More than 50 guests participated in a friendly get-together.
