NES adopts Development Strategy until 2025

NES Board of Directors approved a key document, setting priorities for the School’s operation in the next five years. The Development Strategy until 2025 is based on the strengths and achievements of the School - its strong reputation as one of the leading universities in Russia, a solid academic base and academic freedom, as well as a unique community uniting the School’s professors, alumni, students, staff and partners.

Adhering to the mission, stated at the time of the foundation, NES has set several goals, including development as the center of the Russian economic community, an academic center and a center for applied research.

  • The first goal implies training highly qualified economists with a focus on the best international standards, educational and enlightenment activities, increasing the level of expert discussion in the country, attracting the best scholars from all over the world to Russia, as well as creating and supporting international teams of researchers.
  • NES as an academic center means world-class scientific research by the School’s professors, activities to increase the value and importance of economic education and to promote its development, as well as the development of new approaches to solving economic problems.
  • As a center for applied research, the School seeks to assist the government and corporations in management decision-making and formulating economic policies, as well as to participate in the development of the Russian economy by providing quality education in the field of economic and financial policy and carrying out applied and fundamental research projects.

The key areas for NES development until 2025 include three blocks:

  1. community development, including strengthening positions in the global academic environment, increasing graduates’ attractiveness for employers, shaping the role of the School’s professors as part of the community that ensures achievement of the goals, as well as creating conditions for active interaction of all NES community members;
  2. launching a full cycle of educational programs from undergraduate to postgraduate studies: developing existing and opening new master's and bachelor's programs on its own campus in the territory of Skoltech, opening and developing postgraduate studies (PhD), developing new formats and products for NES applicants and students using online and blended learning;
  3. ensuring financial independence and sustainability of the School by increasing the size of the Endowment Fund and increasing contribution from applied research and corporate programs to financing of operating activities.

“Success of our students and graduates, recognition of NES professors in the global economic environment, and finally, our high positions in international rankings confirm the status of the New Economic School as one of the leading universities in Russia. We always focus on the best global standards and set the highest goals for ourselves. In this context, the new Development Strategy of the School gives us clear guidelines for working in this rapidly changing world,” says NES Rector Ruben Enikolopov.

Implementing the strategy, the School will focus on the main groups of stakeholders, including the global academic community, employers from the Russian government, private companies and international organizations, as well as the wider NES community.

The New Economic School thanks the Center for Advanced Governance for assistance in developing the strategy.
