Delegates from the Chinese university SWUFE visit NES

On May 20, a delegation from the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics (SWUFE, China) visited NES for the first time. The cooperation agreement between NES and SWUFE was signed in January 2023, since then, 17 students from NES Masters’ and Undergraduate programs participated in the SWUFE summer school in June-July 2023, and about 20 students will attend the school this year; one student of the HSE and NES Joint Undergraduate Program in Economics completed a semester-long exchange program at SWUFE.

During the visit, representatives of the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics took a brief tour of the campus, met with the NES leadership to discuss the further development of relations between the universities, and held a meeting for students interested in studying at SWUFE and other Chinese universities.

Anton Suvorov, NES Professor and Rector:

"NES is committed to developing international academic cooperation and openness. We value and nurture relationships with our long-standing partners and are always happy to welcome new ones. Last year, we signed a cooperation agreement with the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in China (SWUFE), and we are very pleased to welcome representatives of the university at NES. It is the third Chinese university we collaborate with. Just like with the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology (HKUST) and the Chinese University of Hong Kong in Shenzhen (CUHK in Shenzhen), the cooperation with SWUFE is aimed at the further development of student programs. We are grateful to our partners for the excellent summer schools which are in high demand among our students. We also plan to create new forms of cooperation, such as joint academic workshops for professors and postgraduate students."

Professor Yan Dong, Executive Dean of the Research Institute of Economics and Management at the Southwestern University of Finance and Economics in China (RIEM SWUFE):

"Cooperation with the New Economic School began thanks to NES President, Professor Shlomo Weber. Our university's leadership knows him very well. Moreover, Professor Weber's PhD student, Jingjing Ye, has taught at our university. Now, SWUFE and NES have a student exchange program. We are always happy to host NES students; they are wonderful, open-minded people. Last year, when they visited us, they communicated excellently with Chinese students and asked really interesting questions at the workshops."
