NES students won the Russian stage of the CFA Institute Research Challenge

On March 1 NES and MSU teams received the highest grades and won the final of the local stage of the 2017-2018 CFA Institute Research Challenge. The NES team includes Anzhelika Borodina (MAF’2019), Nikita Ermakov (MAF’2019), Nikolay Kuznetsov (MAE’2019), Pavel Mhitaryan (MAF’2019), and Sergey Nikulin (MAE’2018). NES alumnus Marina Shestakova (MAE’2004) and Assistant Professor of Finance Olga Kuzmina are team’s advisors.

Thirty-one teams participated in the Challenge; six of them advanced to the Russian final. The finalists represented four Russian universities: the New Economic School, the Lomonosov Moscow State University, the National Research University Higher School of Economics, and the Financial University (two teams). The sixth team was from Baku.

NES students advance to the Russian final of the Challenge every year. In 2010 NES students won the local competition and went to represent Russia at the EMEA level in Madrid.

The CFA Institute Research Challenge is an annual, global competition that provides university students with hands-on mentoring and intensive training in financial analysis. Each Research Challenge season leverages the efforts of more than 5,000 students from over 1,000 universities. Local competitions (organized by societies) lead up to regional finals; regional champions then convene for the global final.
