The laureates of the 2020 Yegor Gaidar Award were announced at the online ceremony on November 25. The nominees were recognized in three categories.
NES Rector Ruben Enikolopov has been conferred the prize in the category 'For Outstanding Contribution to Economics'. He shared the award with Konstantin Sonin, NES Graduate (MAE'1998) and Professor (2001-2013), now Professor at the Harris School of Public Policy, University of Chicago, and Professor and Academic Supervisor of the HSE Faculty of Economic Sciences.
Sergei Dubinin, the head of the corresponding working group said: 'All of the nominees are well-known to Russian economists — primarily as the authors of the interesting books and the studies published in the world's and Russia's best journals. But we were undoubtedly taking into account the great administrative and academic experience of the nominees in the field of education — as all of them have achieved high results in the area. We also considered the public position of the nominees, not only political, and even not so much political, as educational. They made a great contribution to this area, they tried to explain how the Russian and the global economy lives and functions. I think they succeeded greatly in it and I hope that the jury has chosen the most deserving candidates'.
The organizers of the ceremony noted: 'The contribution of each of the nominees is highly appreciated by the founders of the Award not only regarding the field they are engaged in: history, economics or public activity, but it is also appreciated as the way to remind about the people whose ideas, beliefs and life positions affirm the values of freedom and civil responsibility in modern society. It is important to attract attention to these people and mark the significant contribution their work brings to the society'.
