EU Ambassador to Russia Markus Ederer: “We need to work hard to rebuild trust between the EU and Russia”

On May 20, Markus Ederer met with NES students and gave a speech on current situation between the EU and Russia. In his presentation he mentioned that he sees a significant trust crisis between Russian and the European Union.

Ambassador believes that both sides have to work hard to rebuild that trust. In 2024 there will be elections to the European Parliament and the presidential elections in Russia, and by that time it should be clear how this relationship will work, and in which direction each side will move, said Marcus Ederer.

Markus Ederer also spoke about the global international issues. According to him, right now the international situation is quite difficult as there are many questions to China and the US.

“I think it is important for students who study economics to understand that we live in a world where politics and economics are inseparable. When the US President Donald Trump imposes duties against China, it also affects the European Union, it affects the entire global business as a whole", said Markus Ederer.

The lecture was held as part of a series of meetings with ambassadors of various states in Russia - the Ambassadors’ Forum. The goal of the program is to expand the horizons of NES students and help them understand the modern system of international relations.
