Anton Suvorov (MAE'99) is a well-known Russian economist, graduate of the New Economic School, and co-director of the Bachelor’s Programme 'NES/HSE Programme in Economics'. Professor Suvorov became the sixth NES Rector, he continues the glorious tradition established in 2018, when the School was first headed by a NES alumnus.
"NES is my alma mater. It's the place where I fell in love with economics,” Suvorov says. “I have worked here for many years, and it's important that the New Economic School always has an atmosphere of mutual respect and support. I am grateful to my colleagues, Rector Ruben Enikolopov, and the NES Board of Directors for this honor. NES has a strong community which appreciates knowledge and does not tolerate falsehood and cheating. Despite difficult times, I believe that together we can promote NES as a leading Russian school in the field of economic and financial research and education, following the best international standards and solving relevant problems."
Suvorov finished Moscow State University in 1995, and in 1999 earned his master's degree from the New Economic School. Later, in 2005 he received his PhD in Economics from Université des Sciences Sociales (Toulouse). Meanwhile, in 2004 the new rector became a Professor of the New Economic School and a leading Economist of The Centre for Economic and Financial Research (CEFIR). From 2012 he has been working at the Higher School of Economics (HSE), in particular as an academic director of several educational programs, and was granted tenure in 2014.
Alexei Kudrin, Chairman of NES’s Board of Directors, notes that "To succeed, you need to set a goal correctly and be able to find the most effective way to achieve it. NES and its unique community are facing the challenge of preserving and multiplying all the achievements of the School's 30 years history. I am glad that the further development of the New Economic School will be put in the hands of a strong professional, and I am sure that Anton will be able to succeed and make NES more prosperous." Kudrin is also the Chairman of the Accounts Chamber of the Russian Federation.
Anton Suvorov’s research interests include behavioral economics, experimental economics, contract theory, industrial organization, and corporate finance.
Outgoing NES Rector, Ruben Enikolopov speaks highly of his successor, "Anton Suvorov is a graduate of the New Economic School, so he perfectly understands what it means ‘to have the DNA of NES’, what makes our School so special. I think he will preserve the unique identity that NES has. Academic background together with leadership experience is a rare combination, so we are very glad that Anton has agreed to become the new Rector of NES.".
Professor Suvorov's predecessor, Professor Ruben Enikolopov, will become a visiting Professor and remain a member of the NES Board of Directors, as well as continue his research and academic activities.
