Sultan Mehmood presented his recent research at the University of Chicago


NES Professor Sultan Mehmood participated in the workshop "Building Institutional Resilience" organized by the University of Chicago. He presented his research "Network Effects in Democratic Reform: Evidence from Lawyers' Movement in Pakistan".

The core finding of this paper is that an organized civil society can serve as a catalyst for democratic reform, reducing reliance on informal justice systems while increasing participation in formal democratic institutions. Among the participants of the workshop there were a lot of distinguished interdisciplinary experts, including Roger Myerson, a professor at the University of Chicago and a Nobel Prize Winner in Economic Sciences (2007).

Sultan Mehmood has been working at the New Economic School since 2021. He holds a PhD in Economics from the Universite Paris-Dauphine. He is considered an emerging leader in the field of political economy and development. 

The University of Chicago is one of the foremost schools. University of Chicago scholars have played a major role in the development of many academic disciplines, including economics, law, political science, etc., establishing the Chicago schools of thought in various fields.
