Nikolay Storonsky’s Revolut Becomes UK’s Most Expensive Fintech Startup

On July 15, Revolut, which was co-founded in 2015 by NES graduate Nikolai Storonsky (MAE'2007), announced that it was valued at $33 bln in a new funding round. The company's value increased sixfold in just a year and a half, and it has become the most expensive fintech startup in the UK and second largest in Europe. Revolut is also now valued higher than many traditional banks. Forbes estimated the fortune of Nikolay himself at $7.1 bln. Congratulations to Nikolay!

Among his colleagues, Storonsky has earned a reputation of a workaholic who takes a hands-on approach to developing his product and has no interest in showing off or selling his success story. In interviews with the NES Alumni Magazine and various media, he says that he was able to achieve success by pursuing very big goals that for many seem to be unachievable.

Revolut is a financial technology company whose first big product was a travel money card allowing to exchange currencies at a favorable rate. Today, the company operates in more than 30 countries and offers a wide range of financial services at rates lower than from traditional banks - money transfers, currency exchange, payments, loans, insurance, trading.
