NES Stanford Trip: notes from the NES team’s trip to Stanford and Silicon Valley

On May 12 NES delegates arrived to San Francisco where has began the study trip to Stanford and Silicon Valley. This project, led by the Institute of Global Affairs (IGA) at the London School of Economics and Political Science (LSE) focuses on developing synergy between Russian creative industry (IT, AI, design, architecture, arts, etc) entrepreneurs and the New Economic School.

One of the key aims of the project is to build capacity among Russian academic institutions to support the development of the creative industry sector in Russia and create an interface between academia and entrepreneurs. This interface is well developed in many advanced economies (particularly in the US and the UK) but it is still largely missing in Russia. With the engagement of LSE, NES and Russian entrepreneurs, the project aims to help fill this gap.

NES delegate that arrived a bit earlier spent a day with Konstantin Maslennikov (MiF'2015) who walked them through the city and showed the surroundings.

30 NES alumni and friends gathered at the NES Alumni Reunion later that day. The meeting was attended by a team from Russia headed by the rector Ruben Enikolopov and graduates who study and work in Stanford and Silicon Valley.

The program is full of meetings with the best international scientists and entrepreneurs. The participants have already met with Francis Fukuyama, Mike McFaul, David Yang, Debbie Whitham and other world-class professionals. They also visited Silicon Valley Innovation Center, Boot Up, Docusign и The Vault companies.
