Baku hosted the 3rd International Conference on the Economics of Football


From May 29-31, the 3rd International Conference on Economics of Football was held in Baku, organized by NES in cooperation with the HSE and Khazar University. On May 29, Baku also hosted the final of the European League “Chelsea” –“Arsenal”.

The Conference was opened by the Head of the Khazar University Hamlet Isakhanly and the Dean Jeyhun Mammadov, representatives of the Association of Football Federations of Azerbaijan, President of the New Economic School, Professor Shlomo Weber, and Deputy Vice-Rector of HSE, Head of the Sports Research Laboratory Dmitry Dagayev.

The programme consisted of seven main sessions, dedicated to the economics of football: “Labor Market”, “Mega-Events”, “Finance”, “Development”, “Efficiency”, “Demand for Football”, “Organizational Issues”.

Shlomo Weber presented his article “The Interdependence of Domestic and International Success: the Case of the UEFA Champions League”, and NES student Nikolai Avkhimovich (MAEE'2020) gave a presentation on “Applications of the Trinomial Tree Model in Round - Robin Tournaments: Betting Market in the Football Premier League”.
